OUR STORY
Biostream was founded by Hugh Forsyth in 2020, in association with Waterclean NZ Ltd, to promote the use of Floating Treatment Wetlands (FTWs) for wastewater and stormwater treatment across the lower South Island.
MEET THE TEAM

Hugh Forsyth
Hugh Forsyth is a registered landscape architect with a career spanning work in the United Kingdom and New Zealand. His wide experience includes urban renewal, regional landscape assessment, extractive industry, rural and coastal subdivision, residential development, and plan change representation. Hugh's professional services include design development, reporting support for consent, and appearance as a landscape expert at Hearings, mediation, and the Environment Court.
Hugh’s involvement with floating treatment wetlands began in 2008, when appointed to develop and lodge a regional water consent for Hunterville WWTP in the Manawatu District. This led to a wider professional interest in floating treatment wetlands and water treatment.
Hugh sees floating treatment wetlands as an effective and sustainable water treatment tool that can also provide integration between new development and environments.

Vern Weymouth
Vern Weymouth, Director of Waterclean, plays a pivotal role in providing the technical expertise that supports FTW proposals and ensures their performance. Vern oversees the manufacture, delivery, and installation of wetland pontoons, as well as ongoing follow-up. Several decades of experience support his understanding of site requirements and floating wetland technology and the delivery of effective FTW solutions across New Zealand.
Waterclean NZ Ltd, is based in Kaiwaka, and is a subsidiary of Kauri Park Nurseries, the largest commercial supplier of native plant material in New Zealand. Waterclean has been at the forefront of floating treatment wetland development for over 20 years, having introduced the concept to New Zealand. Together, the Kauri Park and Waterclean employ over 100 people, based in Kaiwaka, Northland, and Palmerston North (www.waterclean.co.nz).
